Come along and join us in the light and airy Arty Farty Studio, situated in the beautiful Chilterns with views across the valley and farmland. Our workshops are very much inspired by nature and cater for all skill levels and cover a whole range of mediums. Welcome to our late Winter Spring Schedule. We have had some wonderful Herbal Tea, Tincture and Tonics Workshops with Shelly Taylor, The Winter Warmers session was very successful, I am looking forward to putting together a Herbal family natural medicine chest with Shelly over the coming months. The Introduction to the Potters Wheel has been a great success. Jane Sleator comes along with her portable pottery wheels to teach us how to throw a pot, let me know if this is something you will be interested in. I will be having a few Indian Ink and Gouache sessions which are always popular and perfect for the beginner with step by step instructions, Of course I have managed to pop in a couple of Buddha Painting and Funky Animal Painting workshops, always very popular. After a great session with my usual Wednesday Arty Farties on Embellishing paper for collage I have decided to offer the workshop to you, so if you fancy something completely creative with a bit of cutting and sticking. please let me know, the results are fantastic. Every school holiday we get to be spoilt by Needle Felting Royalty Felt and Dandy, who give us hand held instruction in making delightful little Needle Felted Sculptures, we are making a Bullfinch on a cotton reel in February, I still have a couple of spaces left. Michelle of Mint Lettering has some lovely Modern Brush Calligraphy workshops coming up just in time for the wedding season and how delighted am I to tell you that Lino Printer Sarah Weston is coming along to teach us all the wonderful art of 2 colour Lino Printing.
I don't know if any of you saw our very own Natalie Mclay of Trottiscliffe Willow on Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, well let me tell you, the girl rocked it, the display of her Willow Animal sculptures and the Stags Head she made for Alan who described her as the Willow Whisperer were second to none. Obviously, I am super delighted to continue to host Natalie's Hertfordshire Willow Workshops the last full weekend of most months. Do book quickly, she is famous now don't you know.

Indian Ink and Gouache Workshop

Gouache paint and Indian ink are used together to create a dynamic and inspirational painting. in the morning using step by step instructions you will be shown how to draw a magnificent chicken using a grid method, we will then add paint, then add the indian ink to do its magic. In the afternoon you will choose a design of your own choice to paint using the same method. A great workshop for beginners.

We will be using an assortment of different papers to embellish using a number of different methods including painting, stecilling, freestyle and gelli printing. We will then cut templates to make our Vases, Bowls and Jugs or Cairn Stones to put onto a canvas we have prepared.​​​

Ever popular Needle Felting with Felt & Dandy, this workshop see's us constructing this adorable little Bullfinch sitting on a cotton reel. We will be shown how to carefully blended wools and given step by step instruction this little bird will be taken home to take pride and place .

An introduction to pottery and wheel work. On this workshop you will be instructed by potter Jane Sleator on how to throw a pot on the wheel, texture the surface using natural foliage from the farm and decorate with coloured underglazes. You’ll plan your texture designs and colour combinations on a separate tile, which will also be fired for you to keep.
In the three hours you’ll learn the basics of throwing on the wheel and master some simple decorating techniques. Your pot and tile will be left with us, ready to collect in approximately 2/3 weeks after they’re bisque and glaze fired.

You will be shown how to design, cut and print 2 colours. Working from a single piece of lino you will be shown how to print and cut away to create your final piece. Always a mind boggling process made much easier with the tuition of Sarah Weston

After a forage on the farm and medicinal herbal knowledge shared Shelley Ann Taylor a local, fully trained herbalist will introduce us to fresh and dried seasonal herbs that we can use to make Tea's, Tinctures, Tonics and Salves to add to our families natural medicine chest. This workshop changes for each season. Always a popular session.

to host this ever popular workshop, on the Saturday's we make animal sculptures from Moon Gazing Hares to Hungry Herons and

from Porky Piggies to Happy Hens and everything in between.

On Sunday's during the Winter months we make round bottom baskets and in Spring we make majestic Garden Obelisks in the
morning then go​ on to make an assortment of garden delights, Bird Houses, Bird Feeders, Dragonflies etc etc.

For artists and students with lots or just some experience who are looking to paint on a weekly basis in beautiful surroundings with other like minded people. Please bring your own materials.
