Come along and join us in the light and airy Arty Farty Studio, situated in the beautiful Chilterns with views across the valley and farmland. Our workshops are very much inspired by nature and cater for all skill levels and cover a whole range of mediums. This is our Spring and Summer Schedule. Once again many of the sessions are looking at foraging on the farm for some of our materials to include in the Clay and Plaster Relief work, the Cyanotype Printing Sessions and later in the summer for the Eco Printing Workshops. We look forward to seeing Natalie Mclay of Trottiscliffe Willow the last weekend of most months except July and August to create those fabulous Animal Sculptures, Baskets and Garden Obelisks. Every school holiday we get to be spoilt by Needle Felting Royalty Felt and Dandy, who give us hand held instruction in making delightful little Needle Felted Sculptures. Michelle of Mint Lettering has some lovely Modern Brush Calligraphy workshops coming up and how delighted am I to tell you that Lino Printer Sarah Weston is coming along to teach us all the wonderful art of Lino Printing.

Clay & Plaster Relief Workshop

After a forage over the farm looking for leaves, flowers and grasses to add to our collection, we go back to the studio to prepare and roll the clay, learn about the placement of our foliage to create our own designs. Then we look how to prepare our moulds before pouring in the plaster. You will produce 3 smaller casts in the morning which we can get dry enough for you to add ribbons through ready for hanging. In the afternoon you will cast an impression using a larger mould. While this is drying we will prepare a canvas that we can mount the cast onto once fully dried. This last process may need to be dnoe at home if the cast is not dry enough.

Tea, Tincture and Tonic Workshop with Shelly Taylor MNIMH MAMH

I am so thrilled to be hosting this special workshop with local lady, Shelly Taylor MNIMH MAMH of Wild Earth Herbs. We start the day with a quick introduction before going for a forage over the farm looking at leaves and flowers along with their medicinal benefits to us. Once returned to the studio we will discuss how to dry, prepare and process medicinal herbs. Using fresh and dried herbs we will taste tea's that are Uplifting, Relaxing, some to help with Digestive issues and others to help with Allergies and Anxiety . We are then given the opportunity to blend and label our own tea's to take home. In the afternoon we delve into Herbal Tinctures and Tonics using alochol fresh and dried herbs, which we will label and bottle to also take home with us.
​I am sure this is going to be a very popular workshop, hopefully a first of many. Please book to secure your place as soon as possible.

I always like to think this workshop is a sign of summer days, as we need the sunshine to help us process the prints. However, last year, it rained at some point during the day, the good news was that we still managed to get enough UV light to create some fabulous prints.
We start the day going for a forage over the farm looking for unusual shaped leaves, grasses, flowers and feathers to bring back to the studio to start a truly magical process. You will learn placement, how to apply the foliage onto readily prepared papers to get the best prints then follow the process through to washing your prints. I will also introduce you to some enhancers which will make your colour ping out.
You end up with quite a few prints to take home, display or give as cards and gifts.

Be prepared for a very magical day.
In the morning we forage the farm collecting leaves before taking them back to the studio and place our findings onto readily prepared mordanted papers. We explore two printing processes, one involving embossing. We then cook the prepared plates in a cauldron for a couple of hours. While waiting we look at other ways we can print leaves using a wooden disc. The magic will be happening and once cooked we carefully unravel our papes to see what nature and its tannins has prepared for us.
​You will leave with a number of very unique leaf prints for you to mount and frame for your home or to give as very special gifts.

An Introduction to Multi Block Lino Printing
Come and join us for a wonderfully rewarding day creating your own unique linocut prints. Following the ‘multi-block’ technique, you will learn how to design and cut two separate blocks to create colourful prints. Each block will be inked with a different colour, creating a layered image.
This workshop is suitable for all abilities, including those who have not yet tried lino cutting. As a member of a small group, you will have plenty of support and one to one instruction as required.
Before the workshop, have a think about the image you would like to design and print and bring along any inspiration to support your drawing.

Oh we do love a Willow Session with Natalie from Trottiscliffe Willow. Usually, the last Saturday of the month we have Willow Weaving Animals, then on the Sunday throughout the Spring and summer months we can make Obelisks for the garden along with woven nest boxes and feeders for birds. Autumn/ WInter months we enjoy basket making. Natalie is a great tutor and gives you enough instruction to ensure that you learn all the skills to take home either your Willow Animal or Basket.

Come along and learn the skills on Indian Block Printing. After a demonstration on how to use the Printing Blocks and paints you will be given fabric to practice on before designing and printing your own Tea Towel. In the afternoon you are given the opportunity to print either a Cushion Cover, Tote Bag or Scarf to take home.
