Welcome to our Autumn and Winter Schedule, take stock and allow yourself some creative time and space.
Come along and join us in the light and airy Arty Farty Studio, situated in the beautiful Chilterns with views across the valley and farmland. Our workshops are very much inspired by nature and cater for all skill levels and cover a whole range of mediums. We have some more wonderful workshops available. Herbal Tea, Tincture and Tonics Workshops with Shelly Taylor, I am looking forward to the Winters Warmer session again, it was very successful last year, especially the Elderberry Syrup to help stave off seasonal colds.
We have Jane Sleator coming along with her portable pottery wheels to teach us how to throw a pot, let me know if this is something you will be interested in. Of course I have managed to pop in a couple of Funky Animal Painting workshops, always very popular.
Sadly, we have our very last Needle Felting session with Nic of Felt and Dandy, we will be making a woodland Badger. Nic is off to retire, we all wish him well, we will miss his expertise.
Michelle of Mint Lettering will be with us for some festive Brush Calligraphy, perfect timing for us to write beautifully in our Christmas cards and tags.
Sarah Weston is back to show us all the wonderful art of 2 colour Lino Printing.
Natalie Mclay of Trottiscliffe Willow who has gone on to be even more successful after her stint on Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, we are lucky to have Natalie here most months, she is definitely one of the best in the busiess and a great tutor.

Magical Eco Printing how I love you. Come along and discover this truly magical workshop. After a forage on the farm for
leaves we go back to the studio where you will be shown how to prepare a mordant and our papers, how using placement
of leaves on the paper to get the best results before we commit them the bubbling cauldron for 2 hours. While the cauldron
does its alchemy we be given the opportunity to try another type of printing using leaves and paint onto a wooden disc.
Be aware this workshop is very addictive, you won't be able to drive anywhere in the late summer and autumn without seeing
trees wondering what colour those leaves will give you!

After a forage on the farm and medicinal herbal knowledge shared Shelley Ann Taylor a local, fully trained herbalist will introduce us to fresh and dried seasonal herbs that we can use to make Tea's, Tinctures, Tonics and Salves to add to our families natural medicine chest. This workshop changes for each season. Always a popular session.

Introduction to the Pottery Wheel with Jane Sleator

During this three hour workshop, Potter Jane Sleator will guide you through techniques to introduce and improve your throwing skills on a potters wheel, while creating a Garlic Grater. You will also explore slab building and coiling techniques to hand build your own spoon rest, or Soap Dish giving you the opportunity to experience both wheel throwing and fundamental hand building methods.
At the end of the session, your Garlic Grater and Spoon Rest or Soap dish will be left with us to be bisque and glaze fired. Your finsihed pieces will be ready to collect in approx 3 weeks.

Always a very popular workshop. Using the "grid method" you will be shown how to draw the simple shape of an animal, understand
the placement of its features, then paint it using acrylic paints, then layering to create a depth and texture.
Perfect workshop for beginners and intermediate painters. You will create a piece of work that will be worthy of wall space

You will be shown how to design, cut and print 2 colours. Working from a single piece of lino you will be shown how to print and cut away to create your final piece. Always a mind boggling process made much easier with the tuition of Sarah Weston. You will away with 6 beautiful hand pulled prints.

Needle Felting a Badger with Felt & Dandy

Due to retirement this is our very last opportunity to join this popular Needle Felting workshop with Felt & Dandy, this workshop see's us constructing this free standing woodland Badger. We will be shown how to carefully blend wools and given step by step instruction this little Badger will be taken home to take pride and place .

A fun painting workshop getting ready for the Festive season. You will be given a choice of painting, a Father Christmas, a Fallen Angel, A Goblin or an Elf to paint on a 80cm high board. You will be shown the grid method for perfect placement, then will "colour in" your design using acrylic paints to add further layers and texture. A super little project that will be bought out every Chritsmas for years to come.

I have been wanting to include a Book Binding Workshop for us all, for a long time.
So, here we have one of the best in the business, Alessia Tumbiolo is coming along and will introduce us to the art of Book Binding. In the morning we will be shown how to prepare and make up to 4 little Saddle bindings, each binding will be held together with a different stich; in the afternoon we will move on to make a beautiful hard cover binding using our favoured stich learnt from the mornings session. You should go home with 4 little Saddle Bindings and a Hard Cover Binding.

Using Fresh Foliage, Flowers, Feathers, Fruits, Ribbons and Bows you will make a beautiful Christmas Wreath to adorn your door and welcome your friends and family this Christmas.
The wreath is made onto a metal and moss base, provided it is kept damp the foliage should remain pretty healthy and itact until the Spring. One lady from a couple of years ago even had a robin nest and bring up her young in the bow of her wreath.

Such a popular workshop, if you have not been yet, I already know you will return. Natalie Mclay of Trottiscliffe Willow has recently
been on TV with Alan Titchmarsh who referred to her as the Willow Whisperer, Nat's work is second to none, and what is even better
this lady is happy to share her knowledge with us all on her fabulous workshops. Most last full weekends of the month I am delighted
to host this ever popular workshop, on the Saturday's we make animal sculptures from Moon Gazing Hares to Hungry Herons and
from Porky Piggies to Happy Hens and everything in between.
On Sunday's during the Winter months we make round bottom baskets and in Spring we make majestic Garden Obelisks in the
morning then go on to make an assortment of garden delights, Bird Houses, Bird Feeders, Dragonflies etc etc.

Indian Ink and Gouache Workshop

Gouache paint and Indian ink are used together to create a dynamic and inspirational painting. in the morning using step by step instructions you will be shown how to draw a magnificent chicken using a grid method, we will then add paint, then add the indian ink to do its magic. In the afternoon you will choose a design of your own choice to paint using the same method.
A great workshop for beginners and intermediates who want to try a new technique.
